Pumpkin

It's that time of the year. My pumpkin had a little ding in the back that started to go soft and icky, so I cut it out and since the hole was fairly large, I used that to hollow out the insides.

This year, rather than simply hacking into it with a knife, I did a marker-sketch of what I wanted to see. Help me get my ideas straight rather than winging it like I usually do.

And, as you can see, I'm in the mood for a gothic story of woe.

Sorting out my pumpkin.
Yup, that looks good.

Then to get a knife and holding it like a pen (and astonishingly not losing any body parts) make careful incisions to turn the drawing into... reality. Whoo!

My pumpkin on the grass.
Uh-oh.

And in place on the letterbox.

Pumpkin on the letterbox.
Nom nom nom nom...

Honestly, I think the expression of the little one is what sells it.

Now, remember everybody, cheap Chinese plastic tat is really bad for the environment. Don't buy plastic skeletons for your decorations. Instead, go visit your local graveyard and simply dig up the skeleton that you prefer. It might be a bit more work to deal with, but it is very ecological and - most of all - so much more realistic.

Ha! Should use a proper turnip. None of this American wussy stuff. You've not got a proper turnip lantern until you've sliced at least three fingers.
