Missing DLL? Missing OCX?

If you experience problems using WebScan (missing DLL, missing OCX),
then you need to download and install the Various Dependencies, 3,240K.

What's new?

The latest release, v0.21, is identical to v0.20 except for a small bugfix.

Version 0.20 introduced:

  • Now includes colour in result output, via RTF generation.
Entries in green are new, those in blue have changed, while any in red are deleted files.

  • Implemented "Recovery" mode to flag all files newer than a specified date.

    then...

  • Read the ReadMe - the help file has not been updated to describe these new features - I didn't have time...

This is what was new in the previous version (v0.19, 2008/04/01):

  • Fixed problem where file times were returned according to the current system time, which meant files could be affected by transitions to/from daylight savings time. [oddly this did not seem to occur in Win98SE but it did with XP!?] Now all dates read in from the system are corrected to be UTC.
  • Added tweak to disable this behaviour if it is undesired.

Okay, now for the download!

WebScan download
webscan021.exe
(489K)
Version 0.21
2009/07/27
WebScan distribution. Save this .EXE to your harddisc, virus scan it, and then run it to install WebScan.
You do not need to uninstall any previous version before installing this version.

If you can locate the VisualBasic 6 runtime for yourself, you have the choice of installing a more optimised (and thus quite considerably faster) version of WebScan.
How to tell? There is the suck'n'see method, and the slightly more reliable method:

  • Suck'n'see - install, try, see if it works.
  • More reliable - open a command window and enter:
      dir \windows\system32\msvbvm60.dll
If it comes up with a file, 1.4Mb or thereabouts, you probably have the VB6 runtime.

v0.21.81

This is the more optimised WebScan executable. Install WebScan using the above installer, then copy this file into that installation, replacing the original "WebScan.exe". You can install this upgrade into numerous older versions of this software.
