CreateMPEG32 TASK_CMD is not successful!!

If you look, you will see the error box caption is probably "mpeg16", which means that the incorrect driver is being loaded 'by default'. Given the amount of stuff that 'patches' your MCI drivers (all those games, multimedia packages, dictionaries, playback tools, the list is seemingly endless) it is rarely a surprise if things go wrong from time to time.

A primary difference between Mptool and WaxLyrical is that WaxLyrical allows you to specify which driver you would like to use. It is a fairly complicated process that involves setting up something in the system registry, so it is not for the faint-hearted, however it can be done!

Click on the picture below to see how to change the default driver - I would recommend (in order of preference) "MPEGVideo2" or "ActiveMovie" if your system has them.

Please note - you will probably see this error three times, followed by an MCI error suggesting that you restart Windows.
Ignore it, the error is in loading the driver. Restarting Windows will just be a waste of time. Furthermore, when you are requested to select an MP3 file, simply cancel and respond 'No' to the following prompt as there is no point continuing until a working driver has been selected.

Other errors

The following errors are less common, and will look more or less like that shown at the top of this page, only the "MMSYSTEM" message will be different. WaxLyrical will attempt to continue, but this may not be a useful choice... Generally, nerdy incomprehensible errors are either your system lacks the ability to play MP3 by itself or you have supplied the name of a specific MCI driver and mistyped it...

...and self-explanatory errors are, well, self-explanatory. Examples: MMSYSTEM276 The device driver is not ready. Wait a minute and try again. and MMSYSTEM281 This file could not be played. Check the filename or install a driver that supports this type of file..
