MPEG decoder

Once the MPEG datastream has been decrypted (if necessary), this IC converts the raw MPEG data into video and audio.
This IC also takes on the functions of a "graphics accelerator" (in the 'PC' sense, with 2D and 3D rendering possible) allowing the microprocessor to build up complicated on-screen displays which are perfectly overlaid onto the video.
Other facilities include rendering a display and inserting a scaled version of the video stream (used within BBCi and extensively within Sky News Active).
